Goose Shield: How Destination Checks Work

Goose Shield is the name used for destination checks in Goose.re. It reduces some common risks when links are created, but it is not a guarantee that a destination will remain safe.

Checks performed during editing

When a short link, QR destination, Bio Page link, split-test destination, or targeting destination is created or changed, Goose.re validates the URL and checks its host against two configured lists: known URL shorteners that are not accepted as nested destinations and the Goose.re domain blocklist.

If an external threat lookup is configured, Goose.re also submits the destination URL for that lookup. A known match blocks the change. Availability and coverage depend on the external service, and a timeout or a URL absent from a threat list does not establish that the page is safe.

What Goose Shield does not claim

The current implementation does not crawl every page, follow and classify every redirect chain, detect all lookalike domains, continuously rescan every stored link, or notify the team for every rejected submission. Redirect screens show the destination for links configured to use that redirect mode; they are not a universal safety verdict.

Check and report suspicious links

The public Link Checker can show whether a Goose.re link is active, protected, expired, or blocked. Suspected phishing, malware, spam, or policy violations can also be submitted through the reporting form for review.

Threat lists are necessarily incomplete. Check the visible destination, keep browsers and devices updated, and avoid entering credentials after an unexpected redirect.
